Meet Heather Sievers

Heather Sievers is a proud Iowa Native who grew up in rural Iowa and now resides in Altoona where she and her husband Britt chose to raise Rowan, their 8-year-old daughter with rare disabilities. Her husband Britt is a hardworking union industrial mechanic. Personal hardships in their lives have only grown their commitment to helping Iowans. Heather was not planning to go into politics, but she is driven to change the political landscape by showing Iowans what good politics could look like again.  Heather is an independent leader who believes in non-partisan politics.

From a young age, Heather dedicated her life to volunteering and community service, including assisting in homeless and women's shelters, at an HIV/AIDS clinic, at multiple food banks and providing therapy to children with severe behavioral disorders and physical disabilities. She became a nationally-certified registered nurse who earned two master's degrees in clinical nurse leadership and counseling psychology. Over the last 15 years, Heather has worked in consultant and leadership positions focused on advancing financial performance for non-profit healthcare organizations while expanding critical hospital, community, and mental health services to patients. â€‹

While taking on her first run for Iowa House of Representatives, she founded Advocates for Iowa's Children, a non-partisan group supporting advocacy for thousands of parents, children, educators and service providers across the state. She was elected to serve on the Heartland Area Education Agency [AEA] Board of Directors to give back to the organization that helped her daughter overcome challenges with disabilities. She lives her life through action and always in support of what her community needs.

"I'm tired of political games, and so is my community. We have gotten so off track, and politicians are supposed to serve the needs of the district they are elected to represent. I have witnessed how the current political landscape continues to hurt Iowans and creates more division among us. My goals are to ensure that the voice of the community is heard, to reduce this political divide in our people, and focus instead on improving quality of life for all who live here. I will always choose our people over politics.”
